Breast Prosthesis/Wig Clinic
We recognize that appearance-related effects of cancer treatment can be difficult for many women. Our Breast Prosthesis and Wig Clinic aims to empower women diagnosed with cancer to look and feel their best during treatment and beyond; to cope with dignity and confidence.
Women with breast cancer who have had a mastectomy are eligible to receive mastectomy supplies free of charge from CancerCare’s Breast Prosthesis Clinic. During an individual 30-minute fitting, women can try on mastectomy bras and breast prostheses with assistance from a trained fitter. An oncology social worker is also present to provide support. We’re able to provide two mastectomy bras and a breast prosthesis free of charge. It is recommended that clients wait at least six weeks post-surgery to allow for proper healing.
Women diagnosed with any type of cancer who are receiving chemotherapy are eligible to receive a free wig from CancerCare’s Wig Clinic. We provide new wigs in a variety of lengths, colors and styles. During the individual 30-minute fitting, women have the opportunity to try on different wigs with assistance from a wig fitter. An oncology social worker is also present to provide support. Basic wig care is discussed, although we do not have the capacity to cut or style wigs ourselves.
Registration is required. Please contact 800‑813‑HOPE (4673).
