Volunteers are the heart of the Cancer Support Community.  There are many ways to get involved. Below are some ways that volunteers help CSC thrive.

Leadership Volunteer

The Cancer Support Community is lead by Leadership Volunteers. These volunteers serve on CSC three leadership groups: the Board of Directors, Professional Advisory Board, and Community Council. Community members also serve in leadership roles on 5 of our board committees: Development, Public Awareness/Marketing, Leadership Development, Finance, and Program. Volunteers in these leadership roles help guide the organization to better serve our community.

Ambassadors (Outreach Volunteer)

times a year we publish and distribute our calendar of programs so that people affected by cancer and the medical community are updated on our activities. Bi-monthly, Ambassadors visit medical offices, churches, etc. to restock marketing materials such as brochures and calendars. They check the quantity provided and discard any outdated materials. In addition, Ambassadors focus on developing and maintaining relationships with professionals to increase awareness of, and referrals to the Cancer Support Community. Individuals must be able to articulate and champion the mission of CSC, answer questions and enjoy getting out in the community and meeting people. Training is provided.

Facility Greeter

Facility Greeters help provide a friendly smile and a warm welcome to people with cancer and their loved ones as they enter the Cancer Support Community. Greeters give tours of the facility to those coming for the first time and also help staff manage projects as needed.

Health Fair Volunteer

Throughout the year, the Cancer Support Community sets up information booths at various health fairs and community educational events. Volunteers set up the booth, pass out literature, and talk about services. These volunteers are placed on a list and called upon when needed. This is an excellent opportunity for volunteers with unpredictable schedules.

St. Joseph Mercy Cancer Care Center Volunteer Navigator

This program is a partnership with St. Joseph Mercy Hospital and the American Cancer Society. Opportunities are available in the cancer centers in Ann Arbor, Brighton, and Canton. Volunteers will spend time in the cancer center talking with patients and families spreading the word about services offered by CSC and other support available through the health system. Volunteers will be trained and will be able to answer questions and provide tours of the cancer center. Call 734-975-2500 for more information.

Special Events Volunteer

The Cancer Support Community hosts a number of special events and programs throughout the year. These may be fundraising events or programs for our participants. Special events are generally in the evening or on the weekends. Opportunities range from planning the event to helping with set up, depending on your interest. These volunteers are placed on a list and called when needed.
