Sun Exposure or Tanning Beds

The ultraviolet (UV) radiation that comes from the sun and man-made sources such as tanning beds has been found to increase the risk of skin cancer. Research has found that most skin cancers are a direct result of exposure to the UV rays in sunlight. Observational studies have shown that basal and squamous cell cancers (the most common types of skin cancer) are linked to spending more time in the sun and living in an area with a high amount of sun. Melanoma, which is a less common but more serious form of skin cancer, is also associated with sun exposure.
